State of Georgia v. SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective
Description: The state of Georgia is defending a pro-life law that protects women and their unborn children once a fetal heartbeat is protected.
ADF urges Georgia Supreme Court to uphold LIFE Act
The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Erik Baptist, director of the ADF Center for Life, regarding a friend-of-the-court brief ADF attorneys filed Thursday with the Supreme Court of Georgia in State of Georgia v. SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective. ADF attorneys filed the brief on behalf of the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, asking the court to reverse a lower court ruling that permanently blocks Georgia’s pro-life Living Infants Fairness and Equality Act, a state law that protects the life of an unborn child when a fetal heartbeat is detected:
“The fundamental principles of medicine include protecting life from conception to natural death, and Georgia’s LIFE Act does just that. It protects a baby’s life from the moment you can detect his or her heartbeat, not to mention that abortion causes serious physical and mental health complications for women. The Georgia Superior Court made a critical error when it pitted the interests of a mother against those of her child as a reason for ruling the LIFE Act unconstitutional. The Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine has a vested interest in holistic care for both mother and child, and we are urging the court to reverse the lower court’s decision and follow U.S. Supreme Court precedent that allows states to enact and enforce pro-life laws.”
